In a large stadium, you can often see an event on the field before you can hear it. From a distance, the sound of an event, like a ball hitting the post, always follows the experience of seeing it happen.

This misalignment on your senses is a consequence of sound's finite speed. Light, like sound, has a finite speed, so you may wonder, "Do some events occur a long time before we see them?"
