Brilliant Archive Problems

As many of you know, before 2014, Brilliant problems used to be in a different format. There were new problems written by staff each week, and they were available for only one week. You had to come back in that week in order to view the problem and solve it. When we switched to the newsfeed format, members were no longer able to access these problems, because they were in a different format from the newsfeed problems.

Our team has been working to make our archive problems compatible with the feed, so that you can also access these old problems via search or in their newsfeed, participate in solution discussions, like, reshare, and add the problems to a set. This archive migration is now complete. If you had previously completed an archive problem during the week that it was published, you will have full access to that problem. If you did not previously complete the problem, you can solve it by joining Brilliant Squared.

Now that the migration is complete, we are also able to give everyone a list of easy to find links to all of the solutions you have written. Go to your profile and look for the link that says "solutions" on the upper left sidebar beneath "activity."

Our team has invested a lot in creating excellent problems. Our hope is that Brilliant Squared subscriptions will allow us to continue to create excellent material, for both free members and paid subscribers, and continue to support all of the infrastructure that allows members to share problems freely with one another.

1)

Go to your profile and look for the link that says "solutions" on the upper left
sidebar beneath "activity."

How about other people's solutions? Especially from great users like Calvin Lin (especially him), Mark Hennings (especially him times \( \infty \)), Peter Taylor, Anqi Li, Daniel Liu, Daniel Chiu, jatin yadav, Mursalin Habib, Tunk-Fey Ariawan, Jon Haussmann, Đinh Ngọc Hải, Matt McNabb, etc.

2) I have older solutions that are not listed. Is this a bug? Unless I'm mistaken, then nevermind.

3) Please set an option to arrange solutions based on topics, upvotes, levels, views, solved percentage, popularity.

Oh! And thank you very much for everything! Pi Han Goh · 2 years, 10 months ago

@Pi Han Goh 1) I'd like to add @Anqi Li to that list. Her solutions are awesome!

2) I have noticed that as well. I'll never forget the first solution I wrote on Brilliant.

(Clicks on link because of nostalgia, gasps!) My solution isn't there are anymore :( Mursalin Habib · 2 years, 10 months ago

@Mursalin Habib My first solution was based off of a complete misread of the problem. It was really embarrassing. The first thing I did with the Solutions tab was find that problem and delete my solution. You started off great, Mursalin! Trevor B. · 2 years, 10 months ago

@Mursalin Habib Lol..I remember those blissful days. I also have many solutions past 9 months ago,but I cant seem to access them. Thaddeus Abiy · 2 years, 10 months ago

@Pi Han Goh @Mursalin Habib – There is still a class of very old problems, in yet a different format, from when we had "featured solutions" instead of solution discussions. We are still working on a migration to show the featured solution on those problems. I'll update this thread when that's done. It may a couple of weeks. Suyeon Khim Staff · 2 years, 10 months ago

@Suyeon Khim @Pi Han Goh @Mursalin Habib This should be done (actually, we migrated featured solutions a couple weeks ago, just getting around to updating the thread now). Suyeon Khim Staff · 2 years, 9 months ago

I have upgraded to Brilliant squared. Can you please tell me how to access archived problems? Shabarish Ch · 2 years, 10 months ago

@Shabarish Ch Hi Shabarish - there isn't yet a single place where we have organized all of the Brilliant archive problems. You can get to them via the search results if there is a particular type of problem you are looking for (all Brilliant^2 problems have a little green B^2 icon). Some sets also contain a number of Brilliant^2 problems. For example, see here. We will be making more sets of Brilliant^2 problems in the near future, but in the meanwhile I encourage you to find them by searching and browsing around as you normally would.

Tip: You can get to lots of problems in search by simply searching for the period symbol (search for .), and then using the different filters. Suyeon Khim Staff · 2 years, 10 months ago

I came across a recent problem from a few days ago that is apparently part of the archive.

Did it have a weird format or something? I was surprised that something from a week ago was archived. Justin Wong · 2 years, 10 months ago

@Justin Wong Hey Justin, we just checked and it's because the problems are showing the "last modified" date rather than the posted date. We'll get that fixed, thanks for reporting. Suyeon Khim Staff · 2 years, 10 months ago
