Conservation of momentum along an inclined plane.

A block is kept on an inclined plane , inclined at some angle theta. a bullet hits it horizontally and remains inside. the wedge is fixed to the floor. Why will we conserve momentum along the plane ? there is mg acting on the block so the block should not belong to isolated system. Please help.
