Downvoting

I've seen this somewhat often recently and I thought I might want to say something about it. It's not nice to downvote questions and comments that seem obvious to you. For example, why did Adarsh Kumar get two downvotes in this thread? I think it's just mean...

This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

  • Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
  • Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
  • Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
  • Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

I agree with this except for the fact that I don't quite believe that it's too common. I ask tons of questions that may seem dumb or are easily answered by many. Whether it's because I read it wrong or it is a topic that is not of my strong suit. People have to understand that not everyone here is an IMO contestant and that no matter how smart you may be, you don't know everything and are still learning.

And, moreover, there are some craps who down-vote every comment on a note or on a problem just for fun. Brilliant must award punishment for this.

Yeah, it's kinda annoying… but it's in the spirit of troll, so I don't want brilliant to punish anyone

With all my respects but I remember a coment by Cody Johnson in a problem few time back where a child asked in a solution:

  • How can I become as smart as you? Cody-(Definitely not by asking how can I become as smart as you)

You are not the adequate person to say what is rude or what is fair.

Bingo! Totally agree with you, but you must also remember that no human is perfect. We have to give everyone his/her chances
