# Encouragement: WANTED!

Hi everyone! My (nick) name is Ezel. I'm really high-motivated studying Math, Physics and Computer Engineering. One of the most rational reasons is because they train me to think creative, effective and most of all efficient. I want to improve my skills in those three subjects. They'll be useful for developing the technology and other aspects in the future. I believe that through advancing technologies, fostering innovation with these three fundamentals, I can help the people in Indonesia(my lovely country) with the poor-living costs, flood victims, limited-facilities education, etc.

However, to comprehend the concepts, approaching facts based on theories bring a lot of confusions for me personally(especially Physics). Therefore, I want to ask all of you who have some advices for improving my math, physics, and computer science skills. Can you tell me your references i.e. from books or websites to understand the problem-solving methods for physics and math? Honestly, on the other hand, I feel not qualified enough to try solving the computer science problems. Because some concepts in computer science sometimes blow my mind. Do you have any idea or recommended-book that I should learn from? Thanks. Regards from Indonesia. God Bless U all!

For best concepts you can purchase ‘IIT Mathematics’ by ML Khanna [ i ]
Books by SL Loney (Good for coordinate Geometry and Trigonometry)
GN Bernnam – only use it for calculus as other sections are too advanced

for physics
Concepts of Physics, Vol.-I & II, by HC Verma [ i ]
Problems in Physics by IE Irodov
Fundamentals of Physics, by Halliday, Resnik and Walker

Some of the books may not be available in your locality as they are indian [ i ] books, you may purchase them online Hoping that you like them ----- All the Best !!!!!
And pardon me if I am too straight forward --- Would You Like To Be My Friend !!!!!

Yeah you've got the same Library of recommendations! as I do.. these are really great books... As I enjoyed these book so i recommend you that if you get stuck through "Problems in General Physics" by I.E. Irodov. Then I'd advise you to get the solutions edition of this book.

And end statement : Even I am a guy who likes to make the WORLD my friend.so ..HAPPY MEETING YOU... :)

First of all, Hi Ezel and welcome to Brilliant :)

Believe it or not, Computer Science Olympiad is actually in a very good shape in Indonesia recently. Next year (2015), Indonesia will be the host of Asia-Pacific Informatics Olympiad (APIO) for the first time. There is also a news that Indonesia will be the host of International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) 2020! :D

Tim Olimpiade Komputer Indonesia (TOKI, Indonesian Computing Olympiad Team) has a learning gate in www.tokilearning.org. You can take your first step in coding on Latihan (Practice) tab (there are a lot of local references websites in here), search for some local contest problems on Bundel Soal (Problem Archieve) tab, and even compete in the real-time monthly contest on Kontes (Contest) tab!

Unfortunately the website is only in Bahasa Indonesia at this time, but will be internationalized in a short time, :)

In addition to what others posted I would recommend

https://www.edx.org/

https://www.coursera.org/

https://www.udacity.com/

In all of these websites you can attend complete courses including lecture videos and problems sets from the world's leading universities like -MIT,Harvard,Stanford,Princeton.And the best part of this is that they are all FOR FREE!!!And you can also get honor code certificates once you successfully complete a course. My personal suggestion is do not take up too many courses at a time a put too much pressure on yourself(Which I did in my early years and the result didn't turn out too well).Choose a short number of courses at a time and seriously go through them watching every lecture video and completing all the problem sets and taking the exams.(Some of these courses even have a free downloadable text book!!!)

Besides also check out MIT's OpencourseWare.(Prof.Walter Lewin's lectures in Physics from this website is world class)and also read Feynman's lectures in Physics which Stanford put up for free(http://www.feynmanlectures.caltech.edu/).

Lastly I would say also take up Brilliant very seriously.try to solve the problems at or near your level and if you think you have had enough with one problem don't hesitate to look at the solution(That's how we learn). As a result of thsi the next time when you find a similar problem you can utilize the concept you learnt.

The way you have written about yourself and your concern for your people it proves that you're really a highly motivated person willing to invest everything to make the world a better place.Don't worry..you're going in the right path ...Keep learning and never Give up!!!

Good Luck!

Does Indonesia have any good resources locally?

Staff - 4 years, 7 months ago

Yes Calvin.

- 4 years, 7 months ago

Ezel first of all welcome to Brilliant.A lot of resources have been mentioned in earlier comments so i am not going into its details.Regarding computer science section, its not hard at all if u get some basics. So try to learn Python and try to solve aptitude problems.....all the best!!!!!!!!1

- 4 years, 7 months ago

Hi Ezel, I like your motivation. First of all, Welcome to Brilliant.

I have a resource for Computer Science locally that you can learn more about programming; at nice introduction and practice . Because lack of local resources, I can't give another good resources from Indonesia about Math, Physic, and Computer Science. I use another resources that most of them are not local resources usually. But, I will keep update my post. Keep learning!
