[FEATURE REQUEST] Make Master Sessions available for open viewing.

I think it would benefit everyone if master sessions could be recorded and then uploaded for people to view at a lower point level. Although they will not be able to interact with the teacher, they can still learn valuable skills. Thanks.

After presenting the basic material/setup, most of the session involves students working on the selected problems, and talking about their proofs with each other. The value of the Master Sessions is mainly in terms of the interaction not just with the Challenge Masters, but also with the other students. Talking about initial approaches that you're taking, understanding why they don't work, and explaining your proofs, is a vital part of the session.

I believe that students will be deterred from signing up if they know that they are being recorded, and will also be less willing to speak up if any of their mistakes will be recorded for others to see. I rather create a conducive environment for the students who signed up to be able to talk about their ideas and approaches,

Furthermore, there are various legal issues with recording of the Master Sessions, as most of the students are considered minors in the eyes of the law. Requiring everyone to sign and submit a release form will likely bring registration down to 0, and hence there will be no session to record. Calvin Lin Staff · 4 years, 7 months ago
