Another way to remember it is that "A number comprises of the integer part, and the fractional part", namely \( x = \lfloor x \rfloor + \{ x \} \). So, if the GIF of \( - 0.4 \) is \( -1 \), then it follows that \( \{ - 0.4 \} = (-0.4) - ( -1 ) = 0.6 \).
