Another way to remember it is that "A number comprises of the integer part, and the fractional part", namely $$x = \lfloor x \rfloor + \{ x \}$$. So, if the GIF of $$- 0.4$$ is $$-1$$, then it follows that $$\{ - 0.4 \} = (-0.4) - ( -1 ) = 0.6$$.
