Add the email address as a contact in your @gmail or @yahoo email account.

Import contacts importing contacts from that account into Brilliant. If your friend signed up with that email address, they will appear in the sidebar for you.

Or, you can ask your friend to send you the link to their Brilliant profile (they can find it by going to https://brilliant.org/profile/). When you visit their profile, just click the "Follow" button, and they will appear in your friends sidebar.
