why does everyone want to crack iit-jee?

- 5 years, 8 months ago

because it is the world's toughest exam

- 5 years, 8 months ago

you are extremely wrong, srinivasa

- 5 years, 8 months ago

that is false. The Chinese gaokao exam is way more difficult than your "toughest exam"

- 5 years, 8 months ago

I totally agree,if the comparison is on the basis of the level of competition

- 5 years, 4 months ago

that is not a valid reason. Its difficult to climb Mt. Everest, and I don't see youngsters trying very hard to prepare to get there.

Hi, I've cracked JEE and it's been like 7 years now..back in 2006. I have graduated in Physics. I can tell you a few things but that may not be what you like. There are 2 things. Do you just want to crack JEE? or You study for the pleasure of knowing new things and treat the subject like a master art-work? If you just want to crack JEE then ARIHANT books in Maths,Das Gupta,MCQ,Tata Mc Graw Hill will be enough. They focus on JEE's needs. But if you treat it like art I think you should try solving Olympiad Problems. Try more standard books like S.L.Loney Coordinate Geometry,Trigonometry,I.A. Maron Calculus,Thomas and Finney, Shanti Narayan Vector Algebra, Olympiad Problems by Titu Andreescu

I do physics and maths with pleasure.....m doing maths from New Pattern IIT, S. L. Loney and M. L. Khanna.....and physics from HCV, RHK and McGraw-Hill.....will it be helpfull?

- 5 years, 8 months ago

Yes they are good books. BUT I feel you should also try Krotov and Irodov in Physics. They have really good problems. And for Maths There is Olympiad Maths books by Titu Andreescu and MTG Maths Olympiad books. There is I.A.Maron for Calculus, there is Shanti Narayan for Calculus,Vector Algebra. As far as I can say the list that you mentioned will give you good practise and they are helpful but if you want to go into depth of subject you should try several new books especially Olympiad Level books...They you can come to a level where you can think of being among the toppers of JEE.

And more IIT is not the toughest exam but a more competitive exam as in thousands compete for a few seats. I personally feel Olympiads are the toughest exams. And if you want to know more...There is an exam called William Lowell Putnam Competition in Mathematics for undergraduates in universities. I find that exam far more tougher. Olympiads and Putnam are more focussed exams on a particular topic and require greater thought,hard-work and creativity.

What is IIT JEE? About maths, experiences count. There are some books that will help you, for example, 'The Arts and Crafts of Problem Solving' by Paul Zeitz

A year isn't enough . You should have started in 11 or 10. Nevertheless , join some classes and remember self help is the best one.
