He had short term memory loss. His wife had died earlier, but he just remembered it.
Also, since we have assumed that he has this disability, we can go on to say that the man was mentally ill and his wife was fictional. Stuff like that. ∞ possibilities.
The man had visited his wife in hospital. She was on a life-support machine. As he was walking down the stairs all the lights went out. There had been a power cut and the emergency back-up systems had failed. He knew that she had died.
This question and ur answer came in a book (Lateral thinking)given on registering in NSTSE olympiad .Why don't u try something diff? same answer is on internet.
He jumped from the window of 15th storey of that building(wife standing beside him).But as he was a physics geek he saw his wife and remembers of relative motion.So he sees his wife going up(to god).And wo parlok sidhar gayi.

Both the man and his wife worked in the painting buisness. They were painting the walls of the building . The man was painting the inside of the building room and his wife was painting on a crane or was hanging . The man came down for some work and saw his wife fall.
