Net Resistance

This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

• Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
• Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
• Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.

This one can be solved with a series of wye-to-delta and delta-to-wye transformations. I haven't actually crunched the numbers, but below are the transformations I would use. Note that the color coding is just to show the changes from one step to another. Legs of the same color don't necessarily have the same resistance.

@Steven Chase sir i got the answer using this delta star one , but it gets complicated after each time we apply . Btw i have a hint which came with the problem , can i post ? then can u try by that method ?

- 7 months, 1 week ago

Actually i am not able to catch that hint .

- 7 months, 1 week ago

Sure, what is the hint?

- 7 months, 1 week ago

@Steven Chase sir this was the hint : i am not getting how they got AB as symmetry line. I cannt think that AB is symmtry line

- 7 months, 1 week ago

@Steven Chase sir should i post that image in the actual problem as such i am not getting any option to let it be posted in comment section ? ( As such i have mentioned the link above , can u copy paste it Sir ? U will get the image )

- 7 months, 1 week ago

I generally just start a new dummy problem or note, upload a picture to that, paste it into here, and then cancel the dummy problem. It's cumbersome, but it works.

@Steven Chase sir this was the hint

- 7 months, 1 week ago

I'm not really convinced of the validity of the symmetry approach.

@Steven Chase sir , how to do this problem as such i am mot getting any symmtry line also not any equipotential points here . ( Maybe there are equipotential points ) Btw answer is suppose to be 2 , Can u try this one ?
