# Preparation Help ( NSEJS and Mathematics Olympiads)

Respected Sirs and Dear Brilliantians,

I do write this note on behalf of my friend Rajdeep Dhingra, and this note is an extension to one of his notes where he asked to provide some advice about NSEJS and other Science Olympiads.

Firstly, Please suggest some resources and Worksheets on Brilliant which would improve our Problem solving Strategies and olympiad skills in Physics, also please mention the Prerequisite knowledge.

Please do the same for Chemistry and Biology, by providing some questions and worksheets on Brilliant.

Mathematics:

Please suggest some prerequisite knowledge and kindly create some Worksheets(according to levels, so that we can progress gradually) which would increase our Problem solving strategies and Help us learn more.

We would be extremely indebted if some kind help is provided.

Thanks,

Swapnil Das

Physics is often confused with difficult mathematics, (you may also check mostly level 5 problems on brilliant.org) but according to me physics is a different branch of science which is needed to be understood in its purest form (The concept). Problem solving may involve mathematics. For understanding physics and concepts you need to be a great thinker and have strong imagination. Physicists and in fact scientist are often referred as philosophers as well.

I am creating conceptual problems on physics and posting slowly and steadily as and when possible (So keep following me :P ), Meanwhile you may refer to many books available in the market on these exams and start learning and preparing.!! Previous years exam papers will also help you understand the level and course coverage as well!!

As i have searched on net
$$\text{Recommended Books for NSEJS:}$$

1. NCERT books of Phy, Chemistry, Maths and Biology (IX and X and selective topics of class XI)

2. Concept of Physics - HC Verma

3. Higher Algebra - Hall and Knight

4. Elementary Mathematics - Dorofeev , Potapov and Rozov

- 3 years, 7 months ago

Thank U sir Very much.

- 3 years, 7 months ago

NSEJS is not that difficult, i cleared it last year mainly because of math, you will definitely get full or close to full marks in Math. So the topics of concern are PCB , I used mainly my coaching sheets for that , but if your coaching doesnt provide that you should do 11th and 12th class ncert for these subjects that will be more than enough. Also try solving previous year questions. I believe you can clear nsejs very easily, the problem is 2nd stage i.e. INJSO. It involves subjective questions which are of high difficulty level. Just for information , if u clear nsejs you will be eligible for INAO(Junior Astronomy Olympiad), you can clear that too if you are good at physics and Math. Just do 11-12NCERT. I Hope you will qualify the first stage easily. PS - I couldn't clear INJSO. And last year's cutoff was a little above 100out of 240marks in NSEJS.Math is only asked in first stage and not in other stages.

- 3 years, 7 months ago

The JSO is the most broad spectrum olympiad as you have to be good at all 4 :PCMB You just cant do 11th and 12th syllabus fully, its very difficult , I couldnt and I didnt. One may say, Kushagra Juneja (Gold medalist ) did it and thus its advisable, but what I'll tell you is first make your basics of 9th and 10th grounded very well. Do AS MUCH of advanced chem as possible. Rest , the path will be clear!

- 3 years, 7 months ago

for biology try books from 'cengage learning' i find them informative

- 3 years, 7 months ago

Could be more specific ? Which book ?

- 3 years, 7 months ago

Science and Technology Foundation Series Biology - Class IX&X Paperback – 2012 by Cengage Learning India (Author)........cant be more specific ;)

- 3 years, 7 months ago

Thanks.

- 3 years, 7 months ago

Hey, red come to my mboard pls

- 3 years, 7 months ago

I am too a 9th grader. Which books should I use for Physics ,Chemistry ?and if possible then please tell about biology also.

- 1 year, 8 months ago

I will hardly recommend u hc Verma physics. Prepare from it. It is really a good book.

- 10 months, 1 week ago

Sorry @Rajdeep Dhingra and @Swapnil Das for late response. I am not a biology master and I don't know who tell you such peculiar things.

I would try to help you. For Biology first you must clear the basics. For that learn from NCERT class 9/10/11.Most important chapters are Cell , Diversity , Tissues , Life processes.

There are many books that are especially for NSEJS (I don't know which is the best so I won't recommend ) Solve them. And remember to solve as many previous year paper you can.

You will be able to manage physics , Maths and chemistry quite well.

And try to help me in Mathematics Olympiads. @Krishna Ar , @Ritwik Jain Help us (especially in bio)

- 3 years, 7 months ago

You've already given NSEJS right? So , what's this @mention for ??

- 3 years, 7 months ago

Its not for me but for others.

- 3 years, 7 months ago

Okk :) Even you can advise Rajdeep btw.

- 3 years, 7 months ago

- 3 years, 7 months ago

- 3 years, 7 months ago

Well, For Bio, you have to slog it out (I didnt because I didnt clear INJSO) Read basics of 11th after you finish 9th -10th And also read about genomics without fail.

- 3 years, 7 months ago

@Rajdeep Dhingra can you share link of other countries national ijso selection papers? or link to study material for ijso (any stage)?

- 1 year, 4 months ago

Please tell some of those "Many books" for NSEJS.

- 3 years, 7 months ago

@Rajdeep Dhingra please send link to other countries ijso selection test papers and material from which you prepared...

- 1 year, 4 months ago

there aren't any other countries paper available.

- 1 year, 4 months ago

@Rajdeep Dhingra ok....material from which you prepared...or you think that should be done for injso. Can you tell me...if nsejs is cleared....can i appear for inao also?

- 1 year, 4 months ago

yes to 2nd question. For 1st question here.

- 1 year, 4 months ago

inao or injao? @Rajdeep Dhingra

- 1 year, 4 months ago

INJAO but paper is same as INAO

- 1 year, 4 months ago

@Rajdeep Dhingra thanks. How many did you score in injso and inao? what marks can ensure selection for camp? also, can you list most important chapters from which questions often come (for each subject)?

- 1 year, 4 months ago

@Kushal Thaman have you tried previous year papers? If yes how much did you score in them ? I too am going to give nsejs this year.

- 1 year, 4 months ago

@Anurag Bisht yes i tried all of them...on an average i am scoring 195-215 marks in each...you? Which state are you giving from?

- 1 year, 4 months ago

@Kushal Thaman I am from Chattisgarh and am getting only 145 on an average as I haven't started bio yet and electricity ....so I didn't attempt their questions

- 1 year, 4 months ago

How many are you scoring?

- 1 year, 4 months ago

Especially the 2016 paper. It was so easy, I almost laughed. I scored 221 on it. Please share your marks @Rajdeep Dhingra @Anurag Bisht

- 1 year, 4 months ago

You are surely to get selected bro

- 1 year, 4 months ago

No. The problem is that there is only 1 seat in Chandigarh but many skilled competitors...Is there any way by which two or more people can qualify from Chandigarh? What is mi? If 2 people clear MI but there is only 1 seat will 2 people be allowed to sit for INJSO? Please explain asap fast, very very urgent... @Rajdeep Dhingra @Anurag Bisht @Swapnil Das @Kalash Verma @Krishna Ar @abhishek alva @Rohit Gupta

- 1 year, 4 months ago

Everyone above MI qualifies irrespective of the state quota.

- 1 year, 4 months ago

I know that last year's MI was 151. What was it during your time and other years? When was it highest?

- 1 year, 4 months ago

175 during my year , I think that was the highest till now. But the highest possible MI according to rules possible is 192.

- 1 year, 4 months ago

@Rajdeep Dhingra what is the highest mi till present day?

- 1 year, 4 months ago

yes i want to know that too @Anurag Bisht

- 1 year, 4 months ago

Means even two people can qualify for chandigarh if 2 clear MI? note that there is only 1 seat

- 1 year, 4 months ago

Even i want to know this regarding my state chhattisgarh. Please advise.

- 1 year, 4 months ago

thank you. That we will see on seeing the actual paper. If you are already scoring soo much with even studying biology, you are definitely selected.

- 1 year, 4 months ago

Thanks. But I am totally confused the books and all which have been told to me like Raymond Chang for chemistry are high level. But the past papers aren't that high......

- 1 year, 4 months ago

Yes that is true. I think you should solve allen modules for first stage, they are just like first stage questions

- 1 year, 4 months ago

Have you tried solving those modules? Are you enrolled in allen or attended some workshops?

- 1 year, 4 months ago

I attended a workshop and no I haven't done them😅. I will be starting now

- 1 year, 4 months ago

Yes do them they're good in theory and questions. You can score very much marks if you solve them.

- 1 year, 4 months ago

I attempted 79 questions and got 75 right.

- 1 year, 4 months ago

Could you please find out the highest MI and MAS that has gone for my state(chhattisgarh)? And what marks usually should be obtained for guaranteeing atleast qualification?

- 1 year, 4 months ago

what would be the title of the paper? INJAO or INAO? are both the papers same?

- 1 year, 4 months ago

@Rajdeep Dhingra Don't other countries put papers on internet like india does?

- 1 year, 4 months ago

@Rajdeep Dhingra for which ijso stage is Raymond Chang Chemistry required?

- 1 year, 4 months ago

Right from the start.

- 1 year, 4 months ago

It is a really good book, I solved two chapters. It starts off from the basics and progresses towards quality questions.

- 1 year, 4 months ago

Thanks Swapnil.

- 3 years, 7 months ago

@Rajdeep Dhingra tell me the topics you want to practice in physics and the level you desire to start with, let me see if i can collect some questions for you..!!

- 3 years, 7 months ago

Sir,first we want to learn from you what topics should we know as prerequisite knowledge. And level 1-4 questions will be fine!

Thank you again!

- 3 years, 7 months ago

U go to resonance?

- 3 years, 7 months ago

No, Why ?

- 3 years, 7 months ago

This book is 9 expert. isn't it? Thats why I thought that

- 3 years, 7 months ago

I don't know. I just got it off a blog.

- 3 years, 7 months ago

It looks like complete course of XI, Now tell me In which topics you are most comfortable with??

- 3 years, 7 months ago

Sir are you asking to me? ( I hope yes so that I could tell)

- 3 years, 7 months ago

yups

- 3 years, 7 months ago

I am comfortable with all non calculus and trigonometry parts!

- 3 years, 7 months ago

That means you are not comfortable with calculus and trigonometry both..!! Do you know the basics of differentiation and trigonometry?? If not then you should learn these first..!!and vectors as well!!

- 3 years, 7 months ago

Sir I have done full calculus(Single variable only , Doing multi variable) and most of maths Topics. I also have finished 11th Physics CBSE , but not the whole 12th. I just want practice worksheets and questions and more of them(NSEJS Level not CBSE).I know Vectors very well. @Rohit Gupta

- 3 years, 7 months ago

Have you tried solving HC Verma of XI class ? If yes how comfortable were you?

- 3 years, 7 months ago

I have finished the mechanics part with ease. I have even done some Irodov questions (Mechanics only).

- 3 years, 7 months ago

- 3 years, 7 months ago

I wanted problems of NSEJS , INJSO , IJSO Level. If U could plz make a set and please also mention the total time that should be taken to complete the set.

- 3 years, 7 months ago

Sir is irodov of any help, as I solve from it.

- 3 years, 7 months ago

Its difficult to digest that you are able to solve Irodov at this tender age... If you are then kudos to you.. You are extra brilliant..!!
Between I dont think the level of exam will be that difficult that you will need to solve Irodov. Try to cover maximum course rather then covering one portion from many books.

I believe at your level HC Verma should suffice any competition, If you are thorough with it..!!

- 3 years, 7 months ago

Thank you sir for your appreciation. I have a sad story behind my not learning trigonometry and calculus, it is just bcoz of the influence of other subjects! I will learn them soon! Well I have posted a problem a irodov problem on brilliant too!

- 3 years, 7 months ago

Yes sir I do solve it(But only mechanics).

- 3 years, 7 months ago

- 1 year, 5 months ago

Hello sir! Today I completed trigonometry today, so I am comfortable with it now !

- 3 years, 7 months ago

Sir, is calculus and trignometry usefull for NSEJS?

- 1 year, 5 months ago

@Rajdeep Dhingra is this resonance material?

- 1 year, 4 months ago

I had answered it before also , that I don't know and I got it off a blog.

- 1 year, 4 months ago

ok...can you send any link for preparation material for ijso or any other stages ?

- 1 year, 4 months ago

HKIJSO_TrainingManual , but I think this is too easy.

- 1 year, 4 months ago

thanks

- 1 year, 4 months ago

- 11 months, 2 weeks ago

Hi! This year I gave NSEJS and am expecting close to 190 marks in it. I am from MP and my coaching teachers have assured me that I will get selected for INJSO. But the problem is, I have exceeded the age limit. I spoke to my teachers regarding this and they told me that I will be allowed to write INJSO but will not be allowed to attend the OCSC. They told me that I will be taken up for Astronomy olympiad. Does this really happen? If yes, then how to prepare for astronomy?

- 2 years, 1 month ago

You will give INAO jr , but even if you clear it you won't be allowed to attend 3rd stage for it so no use of giving.

- 2 years, 1 month ago
