Why element of 18 group have larger size than element of 17 group?

If you're talking about Van der Waals radius, group 17 (halogen) have the most electronegativity (to pull $$e^{-}$$ into itself) while group 18 (noble gas) don't have electronegativity (actually they have, but very very low). Therefore, group 17 become pulled up by $$p^{+}$$, making it smaller than group 18. · 2 years, 2 months ago
