It gives me conflicting feelings of amazement, jealousy, and depression. Amazed at their ages and accomplishments, jealous of their talent (in a positive way), and depressed at the education system where I live.

That seems like a pretty just cocktail of emotions to feel:)

As Tim has said, you do have to be proactive and look for opportunities if you are going to stand any chance of receiving them. The sad thing that most of you are aware of, is that for most people on earth--including many people on Brilliant, looking hard for opportunities doesn't mean you will find them. Even if you find the opportunities you dream of, that doesn't mean they will be open to you, even if you deserve them. Not only does this injustice negatively affect under privileged individuals, it hurts societies as a whole by preventing talented people from applying their potential in ways that would benefit others.

Brilliant.org aspires to offer talented people like all of you, the stimulation and challenges they crave and may not get from their conventional school systems. Currently this manifests as a problem solving site, where we hope our math and physics problems force you to think harder, discover new ideas, stay sharp, and push yourself to cultivate your own intellect.

As many of you who have been with us for months know, Brilliant evolves as we build it. We intend to evolve into a global hub of motivated youth. Brilliant will become a place where opportunities can find you, and not leave it up to chance, whether or not you can both find opportunity, and then afford it.

We will keep you posted on our efforts to explore ways to connect all of you with non-internet real world opportunities, both globally and in your home countries. Stay tuned.

Some of them grew up in the USA. You need to be proactive and look for educational opportunities; not everything will be handed to you on a silver platter.

- 5 years, 4 months ago

Yes, but I was specifically talking about my specific region in the specific city of Oviedo. My school was so poor I couldn't take any AMCs. Any other testing locations were too far for me. Good math education is too expensive for most of the time, whether in the form of people or books. And growing up in the USA is different than living there. You think an active user of this site would be here and not be looking for or wanting educational opportunities? And opportunities can only be taken advantage of to a certain extent, depending on your intelligence and application/devotion. I really feel bad for the people living in India, especially the poorer regions. I'm glad Brilliant is worldwide and amazing and awesome.

u are Right

- 5 years, 4 months ago

To be honest, Oviedo is just twenty minutes from Orlando, population 250,000+.

- 5 years, 4 months ago

Population doesn't directly correlate to education. Take certain African nations and certain Indian regions, for example. AMCs are administrated by schools/universities that give it to their students. There are few such places that offered AMCs this school year to the (qualified) public in Florida, but all were too far away (not in Orlando, either...) for my guardian to take me. Some people are under certain circumstances in which they can't do everything they want. I was just fortunate to be able to participate in certain local math competitions, especially as a middle-school student. To be honest, New York is drastically different from Oviedo.

come on.

everything different, if you can't bring yout city to the central city, why don't you make your city as the center. be the first to develop your place.

- 5 years, 4 months ago

but in india scenario is totally different

- 5 years, 4 months ago

Of Course...I am from India...(Andhra Pradesh-Tirupati).... It is Very Difficult for me to go around in my state for the Interest of Education ....& People cant Afford to stay in any-other Place in my own STATE.......

Let me Give an Example.:- [http://www.tanaglobalsciencefair.com/] In 2012-2013 TANA Global Science Fair Competition.... Some people were selected in my region to Finals and TANA Invited them to Dallas,Texas,USA... the selected students cant afford 90,000 Rupees /person ....(its just Air-Line Charges).. Thus., some Students failed to Attend the TANA organization in Dallas

It is Condition in India... If a Student has Intelligence then he will be poor & Can't afford to Air travel If a student is Average or not Intelligent .. then he will be rich => and the bad thing is ., Talent is not Supported in India., ...thus ., All Countries take out Intelligent poor Indians to their Country for their Country Development and Pride..

I am not saying Countries are stealing Intelligence from India...but... Intelligent people try their level best to Escape from India

poverty is the very thing that, saps intelligence,i strongly disagree with what you said
