This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

Top NewestVoting for some one does not mean that one has no respect for others. Any one getting less votes does not mean again that he is not respected. There are many factors that decided favorite. And it is different for each voter. Theoretically one getting no vote can be the the second choice of all voters ! Just to put thing in balanced perspective.

Reimann

My choice is Aryabhatta . Proud to be an Indian (:

Euler and Ramanujan. It was a difficult choice but I chose for the former because whichever article I read, it most probably has one name for sure.
Don't hate me but I love Fermat.
Voted for Sir Gauss
Great ! Me too
Even quantum mechanics makes use of gausian integrals. Gauss the best.

My vote to Gauβ.
I see what you did there
He is the best.
My favorite mathematician is Paul Erdos but here I voted Leonhard Euler
Log in to reply
Whom did you vote for??
I voted for Sir Ramanujan.
I feel we are not yet experienced enough to choose and appreciate mathematicians.
You are right! I agree. We don't know the contributions of all mathematicians so well that we can choose one.
It's like if you ask a 5th grader about his favourite mathematician, he would probably say Pythagoras.
But still, this is not the "Best Mathematician Survey", this is the "Favourite Mathematician Survey".
Thanks for sharing your opinion about it. :)

I admire every one of them but i gave my vote to Srinivasan Ramanujan. After all he is The man who knew infinity
Log in to reply
What does that mean?
That sounds good! Can you explain why you are calling him "The man who knew infinity"?
His biography is named as The man who knew infinity. Probably because of his contributions in infinite series.

Gauss, The complex Calculus Analysis's creater.
What's with the down votes. The people who did this think they are better than gauss.

We're expecting the results of the OPC today, Rajdeep.

My vote goes to Sir Ramanujan!
Even Nihar has not voted for Euclid, I am waiting for someone to do that. :((
Log in to reply
I know this is not fair but i voted thrice

Let's just keep our hopes high :P
I voted for "King of mathematics"
Who?
It is like if Gauss is the prince of mathematics then Euler is the king.
I think one more name should also be included Terrence Tau.
That is a good idea, but I had already put too many names and had still a few left in my mind. Sorry for that. :(
Log in to reply
Fibonacci for making recursions so much more fun!
eiπ+1=0. It is Leonhard Euler for me.
I was waiting for someone to vote for him. Now Euler has 8 votes.
@Archit Boobna Can you share with us how did you make it?
Just type strawpoll.me. It is free for anyone to create surveys. It is a website.
I wanted to vote Gauss but I voted for Ramanujan since 1729 is my favorite. :)
All are great personalities , but my single choice goes to "The Ramanujan Sir"
"Read Euler, read Euler, he is the master of us all."
But I voted for Srinivasa Ramanujan because reasons.
People tend to vote for him.
Srinivasa Ramanujam FTW!!
Euler , my favorite! :)
Aryabhatta, he was one of the developers of ancient Mathematics
Log in to reply
It's great to see people still respecting scientists of ancient times, who had formed the base of Mathematics.
Thank you
Fermat beacuse of Fermat's Last Theorem and his method of Infinite Descent.
I don't get why this comment was downvoted two times! There's been a lot of nonsensical downvoting going on nowadays.
Great Choice! Thanks for Voting!
Sir Isaac Newton for inventing Calculus (my favourite topic)!
