# [Feature Requests] Should brilliant have usernames?

I think, you should let us choose usernames, so it could help us find our friends' pages. The link to my profile is http://brilliant.org/profile/tim-b7nae7/ but god knows what "b7nae7" is.

If we could make it like Facebook, where we could choose a unique username, let's say "timisawesome7", then people could just go to my profile at http://brilliant.org/profile/timisawesome7/ and it'd be way easier.

Also, we could then use these usernames to post instead of using our names, should we choose to.

Hello, I think using the first name is much formal; after all Brilliant is not Facebook, its an educational website so there should be some formality maintained. And if in the near future Brilliant becomes big, people may want have a look at your Brilliant profile to judge you, so I'll not support the provision of usernames especially ones like "awesometoad", "bobthesmartypants" or "smartnsexyjenny". (these are some usernames that irritate me on AoPS) Peace. AD

Well, if in the near future Brilliant becomes big, there might not be many Abhishek D.s but I'd think they will be many Tim Y.s Plus, we could just use our username as a login identification measure, and we can still use our real names for posting. Usernames are just a way for us to identify our accounts.

I agree with AD on this one. I remember names better than usernames too. I agree with Tim though that we should be able to search for people easier and possibly message them directly.
