# Weekend Wiki Party 5 - Basic Algebra

If you want to get a sense of community participation in wikis, take a look at wiki collaboration graph.

Well, we're now in week 5 of the wiki weekend series. We've made hundreds of edits to wiki pages during these wiki parties and we've helped thousands of people learn about new math ideas! This week's theme: BASIC ALGEBRA.

Our goal this weekend is to fill out and improve some of our basic algebra pages, which will be a big help to those who are just getting started on Brilliant. To participate, feel free to jump in and write something helpful on one of the following pages. Note that unlike previous wiki parties, these pages aren't empty, but they are short and obviously cursory. They could use better explanations, better examples, etc. Please feel free to contribute however you'd like.

When you have made an edit that you are proud of, please make a comment and let us know, and thanks so much for your contributions.

This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

• Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
• Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
• Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
• Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

Hey, I just got level 4 in algebra and I got a message asking me to edit a wiki for square roots. What do you guys think I should do?

I strongly encourage you to improve the wiki for square roots :)

The formatting system is unique on Brilliant. I saw different Formatting system on Expii. Can't we build a Standard Formatting?

- 4 years, 8 months ago

Yeah I want to do it but should I add more complex examples or something? This is my first time doing something like this so I don't want to screw up lol

- 4 years, 8 months ago

Sure, add what you are comfortable with. :)
If you think you can explain the concept better, then add a few lines of explanation.
If you can come up with useful explanations, add those.
If you can improve the existing write up and check for spelling / grammar / punctuation, do that.

Great ,you have contributed 14 wikis. Could you tell me the name of the wikis ?

- 4 years, 8 months ago

No!, this doesn't mean I have contributed in 14 wikis, this means that I have got 14 collaborators on my wikis. (I guess)

- 4 years, 8 months ago

Ohh... Great

So let's see what Calvin sir says!

- 4 years, 8 months ago

I really feel like contributing some information!

But @Calvin Lin sir, can we use the information from other webpages which are very informative???

- 4 years, 8 months ago

In general, you shouldn't use information from other websites. Thanks for asking!

Staff - 4 years, 8 months ago

Thank you sir!

- 4 years, 8 months ago

The idea of the wiki is for it to be self contained, so try not to use information from other websites.

- 4 years, 8 months ago

Thank you too!
