Look at this proof

let x = 1 , \(x^2\)=1 , \(x^2=x\)-----------------------------(1)

then \(x^2-1=x-1\) , \((x-1)(x+1)=x-1\)-----------------(2)

so , \(x+1 = 1\) , which is equal to 2=1 Q.E.D---------(3)

Where did the "proof" get wrong ?
