A slender bar, of length 1 m and weight 100 N, lies horizontally on the floor. The entire bar is noticed to have sunk 1 mm into the floor because of its weight. The floor is padded with a special material that is known to behave elastically (i.e. the reaction at any point is directly proportional to the amount of sinking).
