Beautiful Sodium-Chloride crystal

Chemistry Level 1

Sodium chloride, also known as salt, common salt, table salt or halite, is an ionic compound with the formula \(\ce{NaCl}\), representing equal proportions of sodium and chlorine. In chemistry, an ionic compound is a chemical compound in which ions are held together in a lattice structure by ionic bonds. In case of sodium chloride, the cation is \(\ce{Na+}\) and the anion is \(\ce{Cl-}\). In solid sodium chloride, how many \(\ce{Na+}\) ions are surrounding one \(\ce{Cl-}\) ion?
