The increases in the lengths of X and Y from their respective equilibrium positions are \(L\) and \(4L.\) Now, if we cut off Y, the object being connected only to X oscillates with simple harmonic motion, and the acceleration is shown as a function of time in the above right diagram [R].

Similarly, if we cut off X instead of Y, the object being connected only to Y oscillates with simple harmonic motion. Then which of the four graphs [A], [B], [C] and [D] is appropriate for the acceleration in this latter case as a function of time?
