Let \(A \) denote the number of oxygen atoms in compound \(\ce V\), \(B\) denote the degree of unsaturation of compound \(\ce V\), \(C\) denote the degree of unsaturation of compound \(\ce {Y18}\), find \(10A+2B+5C\).

Details and Assumptions:

  • The data is sufficient and there exists a unique set of compounds which satisfy this.

  • The degree of unsaturation is equal to the number of double bond equivalents (including rings).

  • Take major products until and unless specified. Also check the direction of the arrow mark for each reaction.

  • There is a compound \(\ce { N2} \) in between the reaction, it is not nitrogen gas but its some other compound.

  • Start from where its mentioned in the problem, clues are present all over the page and also try and find all the compounds.
