Stereoselective reactions are those that leads to formation of a particular stereoisomers. Enzymes are usually used as a catalyst in such kind of reaction.

A compound A is taken in polarimeter and it is found that when analyzer and polarizer are crossed no polarized light emerge from the analyzer.However when compound A is undergone any kind of reaction in presence of biological catalyst , at particular time $$t$$, some part of A that is left behind rotate the plane polarized light in a particular direction. Let T be the time required for complete reaction in absence of a catalyst.The optical purity of left out part is usually around 90%.This process is called Kinetic resolution.
