Addition

Addition starts with joining two groups shown on dice, fingers, and ten frames, writing the matching equation, and finding every pair that makes a number up to 10. Grade 1 adds three numbers, adds 10 and multiples of 10, makes 10 to add across it, counts on, finds pairs that make 20, completes patterns that count up by 10, and uses the equals sign to compare sums and to show that order does not change a sum.
