About our practice

Trust and methodology

Brilliant K–5 practice is designed to be clear, focused, and dependable.

This page summarizes how exercises are created and reviewed as the library grows.

How problems are generated

Each skill uses a defined generator.

The generator selects values and visual arrangements from rules written for that specific learning objective.

E.g., for ten-frame practice, it chooses a quantity from 0 to 10 and fills the frame in a consistent left-to-right order.

A new set is created when a learner opens or restarts the practice.

How difficulty is defined

Difficulty is described through observable features such as number range, number of steps, visual support, and the strategies a learner is expected to use.

A skill stays within its published range.

Future levels may reduce visual scaffolding, expand the number range, or combine concepts. Those changes are introduced deliberately.

How ambiguous or invalid questions are prevented

Every generated problem must satisfy explicit validity rules before it is shown.

Inputs stay within allowed ranges, diagrams match their stored answers, and answer choices are checked against a deterministic solution.

Content templates also keep wording consistent and age appropriate.

Accessibility and keyboard support

Interactive controls use native links, buttons, and disclosure elements so they work with keyboards and common assistive technologies.

Focus moves to feedback after an answer, status changes are announced, and color is paired with text or symbols.

Layouts are designed for both touch screens and computers, with reduced-motion preferences respected.

Who reviews the educational content

Problems and explanations are reviewed by Brilliant’s curriculum team.

Review considers mathematical correctness, developmental fit, clarity, progression, and likely misconceptions.

Exercises are generated within defined difficulty ranges and checked against verified answer rules.
