Multiplication
This wiki is incomplete.
Multiplication is repeated addition. There are many signs of multiplication, and the famous is "\(\times\)" (read as times). Other signs are "\(.\)" (dot), "\(()\)" (opening and closing parentheses), and "\(*\)" (asterisk). For example, \(4 \times 6\) can be written as \(4 \cdot 6\), or \(4(6)\), or \(4*6\). Multiplication is the inverse (or "opposite") of division. It is recommended that we memorize the multiplication table. For example, \(4 \times 6\) means that \(4+4+4+4+4+4=24\) or \(6+6+6+6=24\).
If I eat \(5\) apples a day regularly, what is the total number of apples I eat in a week?
In \(1\) week there are \(7\) days, so the total number of apples I eat in a week is \(5 \times 7=35,\) or \(5+5+5+5+5+5+5=35,\) or \(7+7+7+7+7=35.\) \(_\square\)
