I live in Kota, the most competitive city (in studies) in India. I go, like most of the olympiad aspirants, to a coaching institute. We're generally taught basic level things at school, and higher stuff at the coaching institutes. Classes are from 7:30 AM to 1:30 PM. We are taught stuff well beyond our age, and so we're enjoying ourselves at coachings. And school literally sucks, y'know! :D How'll you react if your computer book teaches you to start Windows 95, and you're currently on 8.1?? It happens to almost all. :S Satvik Golechha · 3 years ago

@Satvik Golechha Though I live in kolkata, but in India schools are really not focusing on education and knowledge but rather on just getting marks....which I certainly don't like....Knowledge, not marks is what matters the most. Tushar Gopalka · 3 years ago

Here in Singapore schools start really early (7.20 A.M. in Raffles Inst. and no later than 7.30 a.m. in public schools.) School is crazy, on Monday and Wednesday I stay in till 6.30 p.m. for something they call Co-curricular activities. On Tuesday I stay till 5.30 for Third Language (compulsory 2 languages here). And I consider myself pretty lucky. There's a guy in my class called Yuxuan Seah who stays till 7.45 on Mondays and Wednesdays , 5.30 on Tuesdays etc etc :P Luckily the coming week is a school holiday :)

There are a couple of retarded people in my class who disrupt lessons and annoy us. Every time someone says something in class which they dont understand (due to it being too high level) they scream and shout things like"we're not interested" etc. Thats why I love Brilliant. Thank you, Yuxuan Seah, for introducing me to Brilliant.

Some CCAs make the guys stay back during the hols for extra training. That's a bummer :( My CCA, the National Cadet Corps (NCC) is especially good at turning the school into a prison via camps. Just this March I was forced to go for camp (compulsory for everyone). I'm quite sure I clocked 200 rounds around Raffles Square (30m×15m). But I'm sure other CCAs don't let their members off lightly too.

But RI is awesome, we have great teachers and great activities too. NCC took us out to Marina Bay Sands and Universal Studios for free, so if you live in the South East Asian region, you may want to get a scholarship to come study here!

Just sayin' RI has great teachers. Especially Science teachers. I love science. Brilliant better get those chem/bio rankings up quick!

Tons of people in Raffles are also in Brilliant, including classmate @ZhiJie Goh and loads of other great people like @Charlton Teo @Victor Loh @Joshua Ong @Jowell Ling @Fengyu Seah @Cedric Tan and me, @Yuxuan Seah .

Btw yes, school starts at 7.25AM for us. We've got great teachers but everything we do needs tons of commitment. We have something compulsory called CCAs (Co-Curricular Activities) and mine is Cross Country. (Try beating my 8km run time. I'm proud of it :D )

Anyway, I get home at 7.45PM on Mondays and Wednesdays for CCA training, meaning 12 HOURS in school! Tuesdays, I take Third Language classes with ZhiJie Goh. Thursdays, I stay back for a special Science class called the Galileo Programme, up till 4.30PM. Fridays, I stay in school for math olympiad training, till 3.30PM. Saturdays, I have to go for CCA training again, from 7.30 to 10.30 AM. Yuxuan Seah · 3 years ago

I am in class 11 and have opted for the commerce stream. I study at Delhi Public School Ghaziabad which is the most renowned school of our city. My school starts from 7:00 A.M. and ends at 1:00P.M. I have a lot of friends in my class as well as in other classes. All my previous friends till class 10 have taken the science stream but I never feel lonely as I have a lot of friends always supporting and helping me out. Here in India, every math learner targets IIT-JEE (entrance exam for IITs). And for that we drop schools and join various coachings. My city, Kota can be called 'Factory of IITians'. If you will visit schools, you will find almost empty classrooms of grade 11 and 12! We enjoy our studies at coachings! Timings for schools here is 7:30 AM to 1:30 PM! Every teacher is terrible here! Although great teachers are also there at coaching! :) Pranjal Jain · 3 years ago

You would already know (or not?) that Thailand is the most competitive of studying, most of the taxes are spent on education, blablabruhh, yet still the worst (seriously the worst) in ASEAN, according to WEF (2012-13). This happens to most of the govt. and private schools. That sucks man. Parents spent lots of money for the extra classes after school till 20.00 or even more, because Thai educations by ministry sucks. There's too much to explain everything how they suck. If you want to know, comment me for the glory of satan of course. Luckily, I'm not like that. I enjoy studying math after I finished homework, and play games of course.

Lol too much intro. I'm going to talk between 2 schools I've been. The first school I won't talk about the name because I definitely hate that school lol. The only teachers in there I love is every foreign teachers and only 1 English teacher in grade 6. The rest sucks like bird poop in the beach, especially grade 8 math teacher made me switch school in that year because of the stupidity of the teacher has reached the limit like 1/x as x literally becomes 0.

My current high school just opened 4 years ago, and now there's only grade 7, 8, 9, and 10. I entered there in grade 9 and currently studying here. The school's like bilingual system, but still uses some Thai ministry of education, because if the school doesn't do that, that stupid Thai ministry will close our school.

I'd agree to spend 3 times more expensive, but getting the absolute of 4 times more than freaking school. I was like crying (just kidding) that I should have found this kind of better education, because I wasted time 8 years since grade 1 of faffing around. During grade 8 of terrible mist, I found the sparkling light of math that makes me starting to love math, and don't care about that arrogant math teacher lol. In that time, I started doing math by my own. It made me succeed to math POSN (which is for math olympiad) in grade 9. Everyone told me it's too late to do math olympiad right now, but I DON'T CAREEEE!!!!!

Lol not intro again! Back to the topic. Every day in my current school I start class at 8.30 (but have to come at 8.00) till 15.50, except Monday I have extra biology till 16.40. I have 6 math classes every week and it's exceptional, even though I'm studying the topic ministry told teachers to do. I also had chemistry, biology, and earth space science 3 times a week. It's weird that I still don't have physics, but next semester I will. I definitely love my English and social studies teacher (teach both of them). I used to hate social studies, but my teacher made me love it like using magic wand on me. Last year I did computer coding and stuffs, but this year there isn't, because of stupid ministry again. I also love drawing and stuffs, other than just doing math and gaming. I love drawing because I'm inspired by games lol. The rest is like meh meh, but I still like every teachers there. :3

I can't remember the old school because I kinda have amnesia and stuffs, but who'll remember such terrible much stupid school. XD

I go to a public high school in FL, USA. I get up at 5:30 ish to feed cats and get ready for school, which lasts from 7:13 to 2:20. The national standardized curriculum is rough and bumpy, but I guess I've survived it so far. I take AP (Advanced Placement) classes which are basically introductory college courses. Some teachers are good at their job and some aren't. The extracurricular math program at my school is sad and lacks support/funding (as I'm sure many here can identify with), but at least I have one. Wednesdays are an hour shorter though, wahoo. Justin Wong · 3 years ago

I go to Vicens Vives in Girona, Catalonia, Spain. We start at 8:15 and left at 14:45. In Spain, most schools only teach the basics. I have an awesome catalan teacher(catalan is the language spoken here in Catalonia) and physics also. I really like history too. I'm very angry with the education system because somedays I've lots of homework and they're all stupid things like copy this text and answer the questions. I keep saying myself: Why the hell do I have to copy the entire text???????And it also privates me to have time to really learn in this website Jordi Bosch · 3 years ago

I live in Cimahi and study in the most competitive school in town. I have a lot of friends and enjoyed my school at the end. Because we are forced to memorizing subject of study(Like math, chemistry, physics, art, history, etc.).

A lot of my friends is good at memorizing but many of them don't understand what they have learned so they will crush the memory after they don't need it.(To master some subject study what you have to be good is memorizing so would you called it learn?)

We have 15 subject study but only 6 subject study that will be test by nation. I'm not good at memorizing because i'm kind of thinker so i have many bad score in school :p

Everyweek classes start from 6.45 and ends at 2.30 except in monday and thursday i come home at 7.00 night. When i come home i just got a little time to rest because there are many homework from this 15 subjects.

Found Brilliant is like a gift for me because i find my self meanwhile it's little hard to find time to open it but that is okay i still have to be happy because IT'S MY LIFE.

Now i'm 12 grade and i'm ready for the college next year. Kind of stucks with my bad results(bad memorizing) but i like problem solving, hard to learn with this crazy time too. If you have information about free college out there(maybe in your country) please tell me because i think this country does'nt accept my existance. Hafizh Ahsan Permana · 3 years ago

Well, thanks for asking Finn! I live in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, and while the school system here is horrid, I actually attend one of the best schools countrywide, (that is looking at public schools). I go from 8:00 AM to 3:24 PM, although I stay after school everyday to do extracurricular activities, one of which is my mathematics honor society ^_^. I take mostly advanced classes, especially in mathematics and physics. I also study French, English, Art, Biology, and American History. There are no coaching institutes here, or any good programs for that matter, so most of what I learn is all self taught in mathematics. Oh, my school is a magnet high school, BFHS. There are lots of awesome people here, as this school is selective and arguably the best (academic wise) school in Louisiana. Lots of people to work, learn, and share experiences with! School's ok but not the best since the subject courses are probably one of the worst in the whole of the world (Hence why my levels in each subtopic of maths are quite low) . I go to Hastings Middle School. Yes, my age is a lie, I'm 12 :) Our school has the worst food ever. I almost threw up after eating their day-old "Hot dog" (which I renamed cold dog). Great teachers EXCEPT FOR GYM. He bases 25 percent of our grade based on our "warm up" Example of PE warm up:50 clap pushups, 50 sit-ups, 9 minute SPRINT around gym. It's either do all or not. So if you only did 49 clap pushups, 50 sit-ups, and a 9 minute sprint around the gym, your grade for the warm up for the day would be a 0. the other 75 percent is how well we do in sports. He takes the highest amount of scoring and gives it a 100, and anything below that isn't a 100. People, my "team" for football sucks! They don't even let me TOUCH the ball, nonetheless actually score. He also grades sportsmanship and wardrobe. I give my school a 4 out of 5 stars. Bj Prognome · 3 years ago
