# Online Science Olympiads: IPhOO / IChOO

Main post link -> http://onlinescienceolympiads.org/

For all those science lovers out there, we present to you the home of all Science Competitions, the Online Science Olympiads, a free initiative to bring science contests to you throughout the year and across the globe. We are a committed staff determined to challenge all of those who participate with olympiad-style problems in Physics (IPhOO) and Chemistry (IChOO). We plan on expanding to others subjects as well, in the future.

The IPhOO, as you might be aware, has been running since May, this year, and has recently reached the 300-registration milestone and 250-like milestone on our Facebook Page. In the mean while, our second contest is nearing completion and we are planning the third.

The IChOO has been initiated by David Huang (a Brilliant user) and myself to deliver Olympiad-style Chemistry competitions for all high-school students. Note that the IPhOO is open for all but the IChOO is restricted to high-school only. We started up the IChOO yesterday and we received more than half a century of likes on our Facebook Page in one day and we wish to see more fans! Once we reach 100, we promised a surprise.

What is special about the IPhOO / IChOO?

• Our problems are diverse. We challenge you in some way or the other all the time.

• We keep active. We won't let you sit in peace for too long!

• Our prizes are as unique as our problems are.

• We are a completely non-profit organization. You will not have to pay a penny for this wonderful experience.

• And much more. . .

Finally, I would like to take a moment to thank our sponsor, Brilliant.org, for their unparalleled generosity. They will be sponsoring all Prizes from now on, so if there's anybody to thank for the prizes you receive, you should think of the Brilliant staff first. Please help me thank them!

To summarize what we have said above:

• Check Our Website to register and find out more. Also, e-Mail us if you want to be in the Staff Page for either IPhOO or IChOO.

• Check The IPhOO Facebook Page for updates, prizes, and more Physics! There is currently a competition in progress for which the winner will receive an awesome IPhOO T-shirt, sponsored by Brilliant. It is not too late to hop in now.

• Check The IChOO Facebook Page for chemical excitement! Surprises await. . .

IPhOO Sample Problem: Two masses are connected with spring constant $$k$$. The masses have magnitudes $$m$$ and $$M$$. The center-of-mass of the system is fixed. If $$k = \text {100 N/m}$$ and $$m=\dfrac{1}{2}M=\text{1 kg}$$, let the ground state energy of the system be $$E$$. If $$E$$ can be expressed in the form $$a \times 10^p$$ eV (electron-volts), find the ordered pair $$(a,p)$$, where $$0 < a < 10$$, and it is rounded to the nearest positive integer and $$p$$ is an integer. For example, $$4.2 \times 10^7$$ should be expressed as $$(4,7)$$.

It doesn't get sent right away. Wait for a while. It should take a minimum of 10 minutes.

We have gotten several requests asking for different things. We are considering each and every request and are trying to gather an even stronger staff team. Keep updating on our Facebook pages!
