Can anyone tell me why sound waves are called longitudinal waves only because medium particle's motion parallel to the direction of energy?

Longitude perpendicular to latitude or transverse. Since transverse waves having amplitude perpendicular to direction of travel while longitudinal waves having amplitude along the direction of travel, sound waves are longitudinal waves. Lu Chee Ket · 2 years, 4 months ago
