This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

• Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
• Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
• Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.

A really really nice book is Calculus Made Easy It' s an excellent read and is very much recommended.

Spivak's Calculus is much more comprehensive but Calculus Made Easy is simpler and a lot nicer. It is also available in the public domain. I believe you should read it first.

Here is a link to Calculus Made Easy: link

Another nice resource would be Expii which is really nice, interactive and no less than a textbook.

In case you wish to join Expii and want a refferal code, please tell me.

You can check out Khan academy..It builds right from the basics...

Although I believe khan academy to be a great resource, I believe the op Is looking for something more rigorous and formal.

A kind of different approach than the other books here:

And it is under the Creative Commons License, so this pdf is legit and legal.

- 5 years, 6 months ago

Creative Commons? Different approach? Wunderbar! I will look at it

It's a problem text, so you prove things to move through the text. Unlike spivak, for example, where a topic is presented, and then you do problems.

See, if you really want to learn calculus from scratch you must go through the path of Analysis, more precisely "Mathematical Analysis". And for that I would strongly recommend the book named "ELEMENTARY ANALYSIS THE THEORY OF CALCULUS" by Kenneth A. Ross. Go through this book thoroughly, learn and understand all the concepts then pick up problems in calculus directly. While you face any problems or you come across any doubts refer any of the Thomas/Finney or Apostol or etc. etc.... Since you have learnt basic concepts and developed the ability to think I think you may not face any conceptual difficulty... Thanks...
