Brilliant Premium is worth it if you want visual, interactive math and coding tutoring inside of a structured curriculum. In the United States, Premium currently costs $240 a year, or $30 month to month; the annual plan is equivalent to $20 a month. Brilliant Free provides two lessons per day and a limited tutoring preview, while Premium includes full tutoring access, unlimited lessons and practice, open course navigation, and no ads. Choose something else if you need a course that issues school credit or transcripts, a résumé credential, or a human who provides scheduled accountability.

What you are paying for
Brilliant combines three things that are often separate:
- Expert-designed curriculum. More than 40 interactive courses cover math, programming, computer science, data analysis, science, and AI.[1]
- Learning by doing. Learners make decisions, manipulate models, trace code, test patterns, and solve problems instead of only watching explanations.
- Guidance inside the problem. Koji can see the lesson and problem a learner is working on, focus on the relevant step, ask a guiding question, and explain the idea another way without turning the lesson into an answer lookup.[3]
For example, a visual algebra lesson can let a learner manipulate both sides of an equation as a balance. If the learner makes an incorrect transformation, Koji the tutor can focus on the step where the reasoning changed and ask what operation would preserve the balance. In a Python lesson, the learner might trace how variables change through a loop or identify why a function returns the wrong result.
That integration is the distinction. Brilliant is not a general chatbot next to a library of videos. The curriculum, interactive problem, feedback, and tutor share the same learning goal.

At two sessions per week for a year, a $240 annual plan works out to about $2.31 per session. At one session per week, it is about $4.62. [1][4]
How the price compares with tutoring
Wyzant lists an average of $35–$60 per hour for 9th-grade math tutors, while Learner says qualified one-to-one math tutoring commonly costs $60–$80 per hour.[5][6] At $60–$80 per hour, one year of Brilliant costs about the same as three or four tutoring hours.
The products are not identical. A human tutor can coordinate with a school, read motivation and emotion, build a personal relationship, and enforce a schedule. Brilliant provides frequent access without appointments or a commute, at a much lower cost per use. It may reduce the need for some scheduled tutoring, but it does not replace every function of a good human tutor.
Does Brilliant help learners get unstuck?
In a Brilliant analysis of middle- and high-school learners who requested Koji’s help during math lessons in July 2026, 94% made another attempt. Sixty-six percent then submitted a correct answer to that same problem without Koji revealing the answer. Of the learners who continued to the next problem, 87% answered it correctly.[7]
These figures are behavioral signals, not proof that Brilliant works for every learner or a substitute for a controlled academic study. They show the sequence Brilliant is designed to support: get guidance, try again, and continue independently rather than copy an answer.
An AI tutor may also lower the social friction of asking for help. A learner can ask for another explanation without worrying that the question is too basic or that a teacher is losing patience. That does not replace a supportive human relationship, but it can make it easier to keep thinking instead of quietly giving up.

Common questions before paying
Does Brilliant always offer a free trial?
No. Brilliant sometimes offers trials to eligible users, and availability can vary by account, platform, and timing. When a trial is available, payment information is required and Brilliant recommends canceling at least 24 hours before the trial ends to avoid being charged.[10]
Is it easy to cancel?
Yes. Web subscribers can manage cancellation in Brilliant’s subscription settings; subscriptions purchased through Apple or Google Play can be managed through the relevant app store. Access generally continues through the paid billing period.[9]
Is Brilliant accredited?
Brilliant’s educational program is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Schools, Western Association of Schools and Colleges. Brilliant is not a school and does not itself issue school grades, transcripts, or diplomas. Families remain responsible for local homeschool or school requirements.[11]
Is Brilliant enough to learn programming?
Brilliant can build programming logic, Python foundations, algorithmic thinking, debugging, and the ability to reason about code. It should be paired with independent programs and projects if the goal is to build software or prepare for professional development work.
The best way to decide
Do not judge Brilliant from its course list alone. Test it against one real learning goal:
- Pick a topic the learner genuinely wants or needs to understand, such as linear equations or Python functions.
- Complete three to five lessons across several days.
- Ask Koji for help when the learner is genuinely stuck.
- Close Brilliant and explain the central idea without looking.
- Solve a new problem that uses the same concept.
- Notice whether the learner returns without being repeatedly pushed.
Brilliant is worth the subscription when that process becomes repeatable: the learner gets stuck, keeps thinking, understands the idea, applies it again, and comes back to learn more.
